Since its early founding, in 1798, Pratt-Read has harnessed the New England bent for products that combined innovation and dependability, goods that one could count on through years of use. The first products were produced from ivory which in turn evolved into making all manner of items for the piano trade as well as finished pianos. Production grew such that Pratt-Read had 12 factories spread across New England. One such factory manufactured nothing but wire formed items that allowed pianos to produce their wonderful sounds.
Some of that wire forming equipment allowed the company to first market its screwdrivers in 1834. Along the way the company has made a number of other products, but all with a common theme. Good quality, new ideas, products that one would be proud to own. All of them exhibiting that wonderful trait of great value, value that stands the test of time. |

Over 200 hundred years of manufacturing has taught the company that it is not only the product that is important, but the support and service that stood behind the product. While generations of the founding family have worked through the years with Pratt-Read, it is our growing customer base that has become the family for which we run this business. We are proud, as we build on our heritage, to bring you an entirely new product structure, with new products, a new look, new packaging and education. Yet, all based on quality, support, and value.

Our Mission Statement is plain and simple. To ship on time, every time, innovative, USA made quality products, at a fair price, that meet or exceed our customers’ expectations.
Since its inception, our family has been committed to the manufacture of quality products, customer service and the end-user’s total satisfaction. Our strength is our dedication to that commitment.
